Fires in the UK are reported to be at their lowest for 20 years |

According to the Fire Industry Association the latest set of fire statistics have been published covering the 12 month period to 31st March 2008 which show a fall in the total number of fires in buildings, vehicles and outdoor structures.
The Monitor, which is available to be viewed on the Communities and Local Government website and shows the following statistics:-
- The UK Fire and Rescue Services attended 799,000 fire and false alarm incidents in 2007-2008 which is an increase on the previous 12 month period.
- Total fires in the UK fell by 11% to £382,000 which is the lowest figure since 1988.
- Fire deaths in the UK increased by 8% to 500. In England fire deaths were up 1% from 370.
- Primary fires fell by 10% to 141,000, within this figure includes dwelling fires which are at the lowest since 1977 – down by 5%.
- Road vehicle fires fell to their lowest since 1989 at 49,000
Secondary fires, which include outdoor areas, including grassland and derelict buildings fell by 12% to 231,000
Attendance of false alarms, thankfully, decreased by 5% to 417,000 which includes a 5% fall in malicious false alarms
